Using the fingerprint scanner on your iPhone can make doing certain things much faster, such as unlocking your phone, buying apps from the App Store, and authenticating purchases with Apple Pay.

With Touch ID set up, you’ll no longer have to type in a password to accomplish any of these tasks.

But there may be instances in which is takes longer than you might prefer for the Touch ID sensor to recognize your print. This is can be especially true if your finger is wet while using the scanner or if you’re using an older iPhone model.

Some reports have said that enrolling the same fingerprint more than once can improve the sensor’s accuracy. When adding a fingerprint, it’s also important to slightly move your finger each time so that the sensor can capture a full scan of your print.

The iPhone’s Touch ID sensor usually works best when the button is clean, your finger is dry, and when gently resting your finger on the home button rather than pressing it. If you’re running into issues with your iPhone’s fingerprint scanner, it’s worth giving this method a try.
