Marketing was launched in 1990 by its publisher/editor Michael Cullen. He returned to Ireland in May that year, having worked as a journalist in Australia for three years. In 1993, Marketing launched the Marketer of the Year, which runs to this day. The award recognises the best marketing talent in Ireland. The winner for 2013 was Peter McKenna, commercial manager, GAA/Croke Park.
In September 2009, Marketing was rebranded Marketing.ie to coincide with the revamp of the magazine’s website and the launch of its blog. The motivation for this move was to develop the magazine brand both in print form and online, including the blog’s links to Twitter. Michael Cullen writes marketing media columns for the Irish Independent (every Thursday) and The Herald (each Wednesday).
