Every day, billions of people use the internet and smartphones. Because of this, digital marketing has become one of the most important aspects of an organization’s overall marketing strategy.

What is digital marketing?

Digital marketing can mean slightly different things to different people. For example, the tactics used by an e-commerce platform will be different from bricks and mortar businesses.

The most common types of activity encompassed within digital marketing include:

Content marketing

The shift towards content marketing has been significant over the last decade. Creating and distributing valuable content to your target audience to build awareness, trust, and inbound leads.

Content marketing can take the form of blogs, whitepapers, video content, case studies, infographics, and podcasts.

Social media marketing

There are a number of social media platforms used by brands in order to drive traffic and engagement. While much of the activity on social media can be classed as content marketing, the chance to listen and engage with an audience makes it a viable marketing channel in its own rite.

Social media continues to evolve as new platforms emerge. The most popular being Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, WeBo, and TikTok.

Search engine optimization (SEO)

Gaining quality organic traffic through major search engines such as Google and Bing. Strategies can include optimizing websites, building backlinks, and SEO friendly content.

Search engine marketing (SEM)

The other side of the search engine coin to SEO. Search engine marketing refers to the paid activities used to increase search engine visibility and drive traffic through Google Adwords or Bing Ads.

Affiliate marketing

This particular form of marketing is becoming extremely popular. Affiliate marketing is when a person or company is paid a set commission for every sale or traffic they generate for another company. This particular form of marketing is popular with bloggers and solopreneurs, who can pivot content quickly in order to showcase affiliate links.

Every year Amazon pays out hundreds of millions of dollars in affiliate fees and is one of the most popular programs of its kind in the world.

Pay per click (PPC)

Similar to paid search, you pay a pre-set amount whenever someone clicks on your ad.

Email marketing

The granddaddy of digital marketing. Every year we hear that email marketing is dead, but it is still a staple of a solid digital marketing strategy. When it’s done properly, regular or automated email marketing is still a powerful tool, especially combined with personalized marketing techniques.

Instant messaging and bots

WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and WeChat have, between them, billions of users all around the world. That is an unmissable opportunity for brands looking to get their messages out there.

The use of bots, in particular on Facebook, is a great way of interacting with your audience in a scalable, on-brand way.

What does it mean to outsource digital marketing?

Outsourcing your digital marketing means that you are using a person, company, or companies to take care of those aspects of your overall marketing strategy. This could be for a number of reasons including a budget, lack of internal resources, or being too big or too small to be able to have the necessary resources in the house.

What does in-house digital marketing mean?

An in-house team will plan, execute, and report on all digital marketing activities using a team employed by the organization.

What are the benefits of outsourcing digital marketing

There are many reasons that you might want to outsource your digital marketing, including:

Budget  – smaller businesses know that they need to implement some form of digital marketing to grow, but cannot afford to hire a team full time to do this. Instead, they will use third-party/parties to plan and implement digital marketing on their behalf. Types of outsourcing could include web design, social media, SEO, and so on.

Knowledge – because digital marketing companies make their money from just that, they need to keep their knowledge, skills, and technologies on the leading edge at all times. You can benefit from this continuing development without having to put yourself off your team through the recommended training or costs.

What are the cons of outsourcing digital marketing?

There are some potential downsides to turning over your digital marketing to a third party.

Less personal – by handing over your marketing strategy to someone else, you might find that your brand begins to develop in different ways in order to attract new audiences and customers. If you’ve been responsible for your brand and marketing to date, it can be difficult to let go.

Finding the right team can be difficult – while working with the right team can fundamentally change your business success for the better, choosing the wrong team can be damaging.

It takes time to find the right people. You need to work with those that you connect with and work hard for you. There are plenty of horror stories out there that put people off hiring an outside agency.

You need to commit to a strategy – in order to create a comprehensive digital marketing campaign, you need to commit to a budget, and strategy at the outset, as well as have. It is unfair for you to move the goalposts frequently. You’ll also need to sign something along the lines of a digital marketing proposal and it’d make sense to get acquainted with one prior to signing it.

You are one of a number of clients – your business may not be as important to them as you’d like it to be. That’s not to say that you won’t be treated professionally, but you cannot always expect to be a top priority.

What are the benefits of in-house digital marketing?

Dedicated to one client, you – there are no other clients vying for your marketing team’s attention, so you know that your company always takes top priority.

Quicker response times – if your marketing team works with others within your organization on various tasks, having a team on-site, dedicated to you can cut out a lot of red tapes. For example, if a certain department has an idea for a campaign or would like something promoted at short notice, you don’t have to try and negotiate with an outsourced team to try and bump your request to the top of the list.

Better brand knowledge – because the team is part of your organization, they live and breath your brand every day. This can then be translated seamlessly into your campaigns.

What are the cons of in-house digital marketing?

Costs – as covered earlier in the article, digital marketing encompasses a lot of different specialisms. Recruiting and training people in all of these areas can be very expensive. In addition to salaries, you also have to consider recruitment costs, benefits and ongoing training needs.

Skill levels – each area of digital marketing could be done by one person full time. But it is usually down to a few people who are expected to do everything. They often end up gravitating towards the areas they prefer, or never developing in-depth knowledge in a number of areas.

Potential to be overworked – if you hire a single person to do all of your digital marketing, as well as your traditional marketing tasks, you run the real risk of burning them out quickly.

Fewer contacts and special deals – digital marketing agencies can often have great contacts and deals in place with other sites or providers. In house teams often don’t have the time of the financial clout to do this.

Less strength in depth – if you are using an agency and someone is out sick, then there are usually other people who can take over the project at short notice. This usually isn’t the case with small in house teams. If someone in your team leaves, you are without any skill in certain areas until they are replaced.

Does it make sense to combine the two?

Many businesses find a good balance between in-house teams and outsourcing. It usually works best when there is an experienced marketing point person who can lead on the strategy development and then recruit and oversee the people or companies who will then actually implement the digital marketing campaigns.

This works well for a number of reasons. Having a single point of contact who has overall responsibility for digital marketing helps to streamline planning and decisions. Small in-house teams can also take care of some of the days to day digital marketing tasks that need doing and respond to in house requests quickly.

From a digital marketing agency perspective, it is always easier to deal with someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to leading a marketing function within a company and has realistic expectations.

For those companies who are deciding whether or not to recruit an in-house team, or outsource, this article provides some of the pros and cons of each course of action. Remember, what works for one company will not always work for another. It might make sense to outsource your digital marketing requirements at the beginning, then move towards a blended team as you scale up. Alternatively, if you are large enough to recruit a full digital marketing team, then you will have an entire department dedicated only to your organization.

Interesting article by Gartner, here are some of the highlights

“Over the next five years, an even greater rise in digital interactions between buyers and suppliers will break traditional sales models.”

“The Gartner Future of Sales 2025 report predicts that by 2025, 80% of B2B sales interactions between suppliers and buyers will occur in digital channels. Chief sales officers (CSOs) and other senior sales leaders must accept that buying preferences have permanently changed and, as a result, so too will the role of sellers.”

Sales organizations must be able to sell to customers everywhere the customer expects to engage, interact and transact with suppliers”

“Gartner defines the future of sales as the permanent transformation of organizations’ sales strategies, processes and allocation of resources, moving from a seller-centric to a buyer-centric orientation and shifting from analog sales processes to ….  digital-first engagement with customers.”

“Gartner research shows buyers typically only spend 17% of their time meeting with potential suppliers when considering a purchase. With less and less customer face time, virtual selling via digital channels will predominate.”

“B2B sales reps need to embrace … a new manner of engaging customers, matching their sales activity to their customers’ buying practices and information-collecting needs.”

Pipeline – What can we do to maximize pipeline?

This requires us all to do what we can across the business to be in the pipeline building business.

We also have to be totally honest with ourselves here.  “What got us here, won’t get us there”.  We all know that business has changed due to the Pandemic and we have to change our sales and marketing models or run out of cash, without the right pipeline.  Research from Hubspot shows that “the number of deals created dropped 11% the week of April 6.”  I’m writing this in October 2020, do we really think that the deals created has picked up?

This diagram is of the deal drop in the US up to the 4th June 2020.

Let’s look at two of the most traditional ways of marketing before the pandemic, digital advertising and email marketing.

Digital Advertising

Yesterday I had a fascinating conversation with a Martin Lucas for an up and coming #TimTalk (my podcast) and the following figures are engagement rates for digital advertising.

1.61% Facebook

1.91% Google

0.35% Programmatic (this is where ads follow you around when you browse)

That means that digital advertising has a 98.81% failure rate and based on the amount of money that is spent on digital advertising, that means that $265 Billion is wasted on advertising every year.  This is an example of one area where before the pandemic it was seen as Ok to make spend like this, now it’s flushing dollars down the toilet.  Another example is email marketing.

Email Marketing

According to Hubspot, the response rate to emails fell to a record low of 2.1% in April 2020. Said differently, 98% of our efforts to reach new prospects failed.

Hubspot say in the report “Sales teams are sending about 50% more email to prospects than they were pre-COVID, but responses continue to drop. Last week, sales response rates hit an all-time low for 2020 at 2.1%, a lower response rate than Christmas week 2019.”

Diagram from Hubspot showing the number of emails being sent going up and the response reducing.

Hubspot also said “These trends tell an important story. Email prospecting, to put it bluntly, is out of control. It’s easy to send thousands of emails with just a few clicks, and in a chaotic time, we understand why sales teams are sending so many. But volume and quality is a tradeoff — the time a team saves by sending out email blasts is wasted if that outreach isn’t personalized, relevant, and helpful. These gaps are clear in the data.”

High Performing Businesses Use Social Strategically

In this report by Simon Kemp he outlines the extent that social media has become part of our lives.

What Is A High Performance Business in The Post Pandemic World?

If you are a modern high performing business where social media is strategic to your business, or you hope it will be strategic to the business read on.

How Social Media Has Been used in the Past

Social media has been used tactically in the past within the business.  Often it will be in digital marketing, which sits in marketing and this involves tweeting a broadcast message along the lines of “buy our product, because it’s great”.  There maybe differences on platforms, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, but the message is the same.  This is often called omnichannel.  You use all the channels, including email and cold calling and you push out the same message.

This is fundamentally broken, see statistics above.

Adverting, email marketing and cold calling are based on interruption and broadcast and social is based on permission and relationship.  This is a mistake that most companies make.

Social / Digital Virtual / Remote Selling Comes of Age

I wrote the book “Social Selling – techniques to Influence Buyers and Changemakers”, which is available on Amazon worldwide.  I also wrote the blog “How to get 10 C-Level meetings a week using Twitter”.  These are stepping stones in the evolvement of social.  Both showing to the world that there was (and is) a business reason why you should have a social project in your business and the fact there is a return on investment (ROI).

The Social Business is Born

Back in 2018 we found that our social selling programs were “repeatable and predictable”.  Whenever we ran them it would create 30% more revenue and reduce the sales cycle by 40%.  This is pretty cool and something we are very proud of.

These are just some of the strategies. When you consider these, you will have a better chance of success.

Email Marketing Tips for Startup Businesses

Email marketing is the most cost-effective way to advertise your business. So it’s easy to see why so many companies are getting into this type of marketing.

To build a list of potential customers, you will have to provide them with an email address. While this may seem like a tedious task at first, it really isn’t. It’s all a matter of knowing where to find an email address, as well as making sure that you do it right the first time.

The way to get started with marketing is to go online and do some research on what other people are doing. Find out how they built their lists. You can also ask around to see what methods are working. Knowing the methods that are working can help to get you going, as well as give you great ideas on how to create your own list.

One thing that you want to be careful about is giving out someone’s name and mailing address to many people that don’t care about your product or service. The more subscribers you have, the more money you can make. If you want your list to have longevity, then make sure you choose people who need your product or service.

Best Tips For Your Start-up Business

After you’ve determined who you are going to market to, you will need to start planning out your next step, which will include having a monthly newsletter. Remember that emails can easily get lost in the shuffle. So, having a regular newsletter will ensure that it is picked up each month by your subscribers. You want to make sure that you use a high-quality email marketing software to allow you to know when you should send out an email.

Once you have your newsletter sign up form established, you can start looking for your products or services or start building an affiliate link. Keep in mind that people are only going to join you if they have an interest in what you are offering.

You will want to email these people with offers to promote your products or services and have them take action. You can do this through offers that promote your software or affiliate links, as well as offering incentives for signing up. Also, do a free trial to get their attention, and then you can offer them a discounted or even free product.

While email marketing isn’t a new concept, it is only recently that many companies have begun using it. When done properly, it can result in a considerable amount of profit for your business.

Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing is simply marketing done through social media platforms. A marketing technique that combines website promotion, blogs, and discussion boards to connect with prospects and establish a brand. It allows businesses to connect with their customers but also promote their business via social media marketing. Helps establish business ties, generate buzz, and make an organization more appealing to potential clients.

Today, companies are turning to the Internet to solve all of their marketing needs; however, traditional forms of marketing do not offer the same convenience as they once did. For many years, businesses could only reach out to their customers through visits to their office or even by sending out business cards.

With social media marketing, companies can reach their customers when they need them most. If you’re looking to make your start-up business more attractive to customers, consider using social media marketing.

One of the most critical aspects of the start-up business is to have your products and services are unique. Unlike before, now, customers can easily find out about your business, providing them with fresh information about what you do. For instance, having your website listed on various search engines and sites will help customers find you. Websites are also a great way to connect with customers and create long term relationships.

Most network marketing companies are also looking to expand their reach online. Some of them have gained loyal followings because of their ability to leverage social media marketing techniques. These companies offer a variety of marketing tools for their members, including blog marketing, social networking, and more.

Can Help Your Start-up Business

Social media marketing is similar to traditional marketing. The only difference is that it provides a better way to connect with customers online. It helps to provide your audience with a sense of familiarity while providing your products and services to potential customers at the same time.

Although some might consider network marketing as competition from them, it is suitable for customer support. Since the company will be relying on customers to purchase your products and services, it will be beneficial to provide your customers with free content and discounts to keep them happy.

When people’s attention is brought to your site, it becomes much easier to get them to share your content with others. It makes sense to use social networking sites to connect with potential customers. Not only will you have a built-in community, but it will also give you a platform where you can further build a fan base.

To reach more potential customers, you will need to implement social media marketing strategies in your marketing plan. If you’re looking to start a start-up business, this is a great way to establish the name of your business and attract new customers.

Avoid Failure With Paid Promotions and Paid Advertising

The idea of Paid Promotions to help a start-up business success is simple enough, but it’s also very easy to go wrong. You may want to spend months developing your own promotions and marketing efforts, only to realize that they’re not working well enough for you to earn money from them. On the other hand, you may discover that your existing marketing efforts are working, and then you’re simply out of ideas. Here are some tips to help you avoid this situation.

One reason why paying Promotions may not be as successful as you’d like them to be is because of the quality of your content. For one thing, you want to have something that will catch people’s attention from the moment Facebook ads placement strategy they come across it.

For another thing, you should be writing for readers that will read what you’ve written. When you go into Paid Promotions thinking that only your own site is going to get traffic, this is not the case. A lot of articles and blogs go into Paid Promotions in a similar way – a good article or blog gets more views and traffic because people find it useful.

It’s not always easy to keep in mind these things, but if you’re serious about getting your Business Online and driving traffic to your site, you need to remember that paying Promotions and Paid Advertising can help you. The success of Paid Promotions and Paid Advertising depends on the quality of the material you put out there.

The less work you have to do, the better off you’ll be. It’s not always easy to write an article, but if you’re doing it well and putting out high-quality content, it will make your Paid Promotions and Paid Advertising efforts more successful.

The most effective and cost-effective SEO optimization approach that will generate more traffic to your website is Search Engine Optimization. It is mainly a marketing plan that is driven by search engines to generate relevant traffic to your website.

In this process, keywords or key phrases are associated with each page of your website to make it search engine friendly.

The idea is to make your site to be easily found by the search engines and also to bring about a targeted audience to your website. The best way to attract such visitors is through the use of rich media such as graphics, videos, voice over Internet applications, and animated images.

Although search engine optimization is essential to the success of any website, this also comes with a price. To sustain this for a long time, you need to make use of the best practices of Search Engine Optimization. SEO includes the use of appropriate keywords, appropriate meta-tags, and the use of proper content on your website.

The content consists of all the essential information that is related to your business, product, or service. The SEO strategies should be taken into consideration as the process of SEO is at the forefront of the competition of search engines.

The first step for Search Engine Optimization is research. You need to have a high level of competency to conduct a search engine optimization campaign. SEO is basically to get an understanding of what is on the mind of the search engines.

There are many resources available for free that can provide you with the knowledge to carry out the process of Search Engine Optimization. Some of these are those that offer training. Once you have this knowledge, then you can proceed with the process of Search Engine Optimization.

Content Marketing

If you are a blogger, marketer, or a freelance writer, you should be careful with content marketing. You might be losing clients by writing lousy content for your business. There are three ways to find out what the search engines think about your content. The first is by reading the Google manual that shows you how to find out what the search engines say about your content. You will also find that there are a lot of mistakes in the content of many blogs.

Another way to find out what the search engines think about your content is to have your own content analysed. You should be aware that most content management companies do not analyse your content for you, but they do suggest improvements for you.

The best way to go about this is to find a company that specializes in this and employ them to write a blog post for you. They will tell you exactly what you should change about your content.

Content Strategy

You can also use a service that will analyse the content of your business and send you an email when there is a problem with the content. It sounds far fetched, but you might find that the content management expert had seen similar issues before.

The best thing about it is that you do not have to worry about the time it takes to do it yourself. You can ask them to rewrite the content for you for a little over $20 per article. Do a little research before employing a content management company.

A third option is to do it yourself, but I am afraid you will be writing content that is never going to be seen by many people because most people have no idea what the term content marketing means.

The problem is very simple.

The world has moved on.

I grew up in a world where the only games in town was sending letters and cold calling, there was no internet and no email.  Yes there was such a world.

We stopped sending letters, why? because email meant it saved us the price of a stamp.  Again the world had moved on.

Just look at this research from Simon Kemp.

that 4.57 billion people now use the internet, an increase of more than 7 percent since this time last year. Social media users are growing even faster, up by more than 8 percent since April 2019 to reach 3.81 billion today.

social media users around the world have both increased by more than 300 million over the past twelve months

and there are “Big jumps in digital activity, especially in countries that have seen the strictest COVID-19 lockdowns

The world has switched to digital.

I was on a webinar today and said “everybody hates advertising, cold calling and emailing. Why? Because it’s based on interruption“.

And the penny dropped with the interviewer.

As a seller you may hate that, but that’s the world we live in.  Social media has changed society and changed how we do business.

We all have mobile phones, we all can buy things (and do) without talking to a sales person. So when we see an advert, we get a cold call and a cold email ….. it pisses us off.  Why? Because you have interrupted us and we know that you contacting us like this is so old fashioned and out moded.

Why Don’t People Buy Through Cold Calling and Email

Because you cannot build relationships … especially in a world of no face-to-face meetings

Because You cannot build trust …. why would I trust you after you pissed me off and we are living in a world of no face-to-face meetings

Because you cannot prove you are an expert and help the client

Because are savvy to your manipulative questioning

Because you are too busy running around trying to “qualify” sales rather than being able to only focus on deals you can win.

Because you are too focused on being liked by everybody

Because you don’t have the depth of relationship to convince the buyer

Because advertising, cold calling and email does not scale – it takes you far too long to build multiple relationships across a business

Because your methods are efficient … if you take cold calling 1 min of effort, translates into 1 min of output effort. With social you can take 1 min of effort and turn it into thousands of minutes output.

Because, because, because …..

This is your Leadership Moment.

While other analogue managers are going to stick with what they did in their 30s.  “It was good for me then, so it can be good for me now”.  We so often hear.

Covid19 has accelerated the need to move to digital and social.

You know as well as I do that you and your team need to be fitter and stronger and have embraced digital and social by the time we get out of this crisis.

Social Selling Business Case

We expect each of the people we train in social selling to be able to make (if they do what we say) at least one additional meeting per week.  Let’s assume that 4 of those meetings turn into proposals and you close 1 of those proposals.  That means you are closing one additional deal per quarter.  If your average deal size is $100,000, then each sales person is closing an additional $400,000 per year.  As sales team of 10 will create $4 million additional revenue per annum.  This isn’t a one off, this is every year. Forever!

The Low Risk Approach

Here at DLA Ignite, we are not pivoting, we have been transforming companies to use social and digital for four years.  We have the track record, we also know what when we run our social selling programs the results are repeatable and predictable.  In fact, we have done this so many times that we are a low risk option.

If you want to get out of this mess, maybe it’s time to talk to us.

We make dozens of prospecting calls, send hundreds of emails. We find customers with some level of interest, then do everything we can to convince the customers to buy our products.

E-commerce is one of the fastest growing industries at a global level.

E-commerce is one of the fastest growing industries at a global level. With an increasing number of online companies, reaching customers becomes harder which is why promoting it in a way that stands out from the competition is essential especially when providing to a market where the products of companies are similar.Read

One of the first ways to promote a business to online clients is to create a website. The key is not to create just any website, but one that promotes the best features of your products or services. This is why, for this kind of job, the assistance of specialists is essential.

The creation of the website is just the first step, as there are others to complete in order to reach as many clients as possible. Some of them are listed below.

Mobile website optimization

In a world where the smartphone is equipped to act more and more like a computer, we will soon come to say that desktop computers and even laptops are obsolete as they do not offer the same mobility as phones. This is why having a mobile version of a website will lead to an increased traffic, thus a higher reach to online customers. The creation of a website for mobile devices goes hand in hand with a mobile application, so the two of them should be considered together. Mobile applications also work for those who want to use paid advertising for increasing their online visibility.

Search Engine Optimization or SEO

Having a website, even with a mobile version, is not sufficient to attract online customers. In order to be visible, it needs to appear on the first pages and lines of search engines. For this purpose, they need to be optimized based on the searches of people. The Search Engine Optimization or SEO process can help a company increase its visibility on the Internet.

Social Media Marketing

Social media is the most important channel to reach young audiences. Facebook and Instagram are the two most used social media channels, however, when promoting a business for online clients on these websites, content is what makes the difference. Time, regular posts of high-quality content and attention to the newest trends is what makes a page or account to generate profits and attract clients in the online environment.

The tools available for attracting clients online are quite a few and choosing the right ones is very important. However, through having a website, a business owner can build around to create an identity and later a brand.

In the last decade, things went from offline to online. People are now searching for clothes on e-commerce websites instead of looking for some stores. Businesses are taking their online presence seriously. Moreover, people are creating millions of dollars through different online services. Here are the eight best digital marketing strategies small businesses should implement.

Running a business or starting your new business?

These days most startups fail because of their narrow visions about marketing. There are hundreds of articles written by various digital marketing experts about different marketing techniques that will help you grow your business.

You’ll need to know about basic digital marketing strategies that will help you grow when you have entered into the internet.

There are basically eight digital marketing strategies for small businesses that should be implemented in order to mark your online presence. But, you’ll want to have a clear vision of your marketing strategies for your new business. Begin here.

Email Marketing

My personal favorite and a great tool to grow your business quickly. Email Marketing is a strategy that has an ROI of 21$ per dollar. Emails are considered dead in the marketing field, but still, email marketing has the potential to give the best results in comparison to other marketing strategies.

You have to very selective while shooting emails to your customers. You can’t attract your customers with a particular mail. You have to run several experiments to find your audiences taste it. Thus, Email Marketing will take time, but once implemented correctly; it will worth every penny.

You can attract your audience through some attractive offers or via some informative pieces of content. But make sure your email good enough to grab your customer’s attention. Avoid using big paragraphs; keep your email content crisp and short.

Social Media Marketing

Another marketing technique that offers you guaranteed results. But the majority of small businesses ignore it as their business is either not related to social media or the want to target user’s available offline.

If you are into the same category, then let me tell you that social media marketing will work as a mouth marketing asset. Thus, if you aren’t the response of offline users, social media can help you grab our customer’s attention indirectly.

Along with this, having good social media handles creates a brand value in the market that will again help you grow your business.

It will give your business some exposure and customers. Social Media Marketing will help you in search engine rankings.

Paid Promotions

It includes PPC (Pay Per Click) Marketing. In paid promotions, you basically pay to get a feature. It could be on social media websites, search engines. But for a new business, it is a tough job to get maximum results at a limited investment, and sadly there isn’t any trick or hack to do so.  You need to practice different promotions so that you can get an idea about which one is giving you the desired results.

If you aren’t good at experiments or don’t have the budget for testing, then you can hire some digital marketing experts. Paid marketers will handle all the paid promotions for you, and they will extract maximum profit from every penny spent.

Search Engine Optimization

If you are running a business that has a website and it can get sales to you then, this is the most import strategy that costs you very less but gives long term results. Since you are not the only one running the business, there would be hundreds and thousands of other people working in your niche.

Through Search Engine Optimization, you can outrank them and can hold the first position on various search engines.

But SEO optimization needs proper skill sets and technical knowledge so that you can compete with others. If you don’t have a good grip about the technical aspects of SEO optimization, then you can hire some SEO experts like Optimise for SEO. These are the experts that will help you rank on the top of search engines.

Content Marketing

It is the most trending marketing strategy that will give your business a quick yet reliable boost. Content Marketing is a strategy in which you are creating useful content for a particular audience and putting it on a platform. Content Marketing increases your business visibility over the internet. It boosts your SEO.  It builds credibility, authority f your business. Thus, content marketing is one of the best digital marketing strategies.

Attend Events

Attending events is not a typical digital marketing technique, but it can help you increase your digital business. All you need to do is to attend the events that are relevant to your field. This way, you will meet with people with a common interest, and it will help you in the next digital marketing technique.

Outreach Like-Minded People

I am assuming that you have contact details like email, phone number, etc. for people that are related to your field. Now, you have to convey a message to then and need to have a conversation describing your products. If the guy found it interesting, then they will surely talk about it on their social media handles or blog.

Reaching out to like-minded people works similarly to paid promotions.

But hey — reaching out is completely free, and it helps you learn from other business ideas. But in this strategy, you need to be very formal and professional while reaching out to people so that you can leave an impression on them.

Offer Freebies

It is a strategy that was implemented by some big brands of the present time, and it worked like charm. In this digital marketing technique, you need to offer something valuable to your users. Offering something useful will get persons or businesses attracted to your business, and as a result, they’ll come to you — as a regular reader and returning customer.

You can check Optimise for SEO as they are offering free SEO audit for a website and in return, they need your mail address so that they can implement the email marketing strategy on you.

Conclusion

These were the best digital marketing strategies that you must try to get the desired results. Though there are hundreds of strategies that work well these 8 are the best among all and yet most efficient.

Getting organic traffic to your website firstly takes time and patience to do. You will NOT get any overnight success with this!

By being consistent and having a long term strategy, you can start to see you ranking on the search engines and have more traffic to your website.

Top two strategies to driving traffic to your website are:

1. Social Media Marketing

2. Content Marketing

Here I will dive into how both tips can work for you and what steps you should be taking.

Social Media Marketing

Social media is a popular way of targeting specific groups of people. But it is also a way of truly engaging with them and turn them into high-quality leads.

92% of small businesses use social media as they consider it an important part.

When it comes to using social media, unless you are a large business with large teams of staff, only stick to 1 or 2 platforms and dominate them.

Every platform is targeted to different segments of society, so you need to be strategic in choosing which platform is best for you.

Facebook Targeted towards B2C and generation Y and older (so people born no later than the mid-1990s)

Twitter Used by a whole variety of different segments of society. Though some businesses will find Twitter more useful than others. To find out if Twitter is a good path for you to take, look at your direct competitors and your target market.

Instagram A mainly visual platform that is mainly used by Millennials. As a business, you can take advantage of this by using ‘influencers‘ to market your product.

Pinterest Another mainly visual platform, where you can post a picture that gets redirected to your website. Pinterest is also great for SEO, as Google images show Pinterest images.

LinkedIn The ultimate B2B platform, where businesses are networking with businesses. If you are in the B2B industry then LinkedIn is the only platform you should be taking advantage of.

Don’t know where to start?

My business partner Josh Turner has done for you LinkedIn campaign management services. You will get a pipeline of clients consistently full of 10-15 appointments every month with high-end clients.

Content Marketing

Content is all about creating content for your target market that they will love and want to use you as their go-to resource, then eventually buying from you. The biggest trick to content marketing is to stay consistent, give value and be useful!

Here is a little guide to how you CAN do content marketing in your business.

– Keyword Research

Keyword research is a must done starting point for any content creator. To do keyword research effectively look at Facebook groups and forums with your target market in and look at what the hot topic of discussion is.

– Blog or Vlog Regularly

Blogging or vlogging (video blog) regularly then you will start to attract regular visitors to your website. Make sure you optimize your blog or vlog with specific keywords (in the vlog description).

– Optimize Your Meta Description

Meta descriptions are the small piece of text under the site title on Google search results. Adding the keyword in the meta description so that you rank higher for the keyword. Using a tool such as Yoast SEO (a WordPress Plugin) will help you to do this effortlessly.

– Linking (internal and external) To Create A Structure

What Google loves the most is when websites have a structure. Google wants to see you linking to other pages or posts within your website. Also, Google wants to see you linking out to other websites. Using external websites to back up what you are saying in your post or an affiliate link is the normal method to do external links.

Those are my top 2 tips for driving more traffic to your website. If you have enjoyed this post then please share it on social media or comment below.

Q: When it comes to customer acquisition, how important is paid social media compared with other digital channels? — John L., Houston

Social media has created a beautiful opportunity for entrepreneurs: It’s never been easier to get your message in front of hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people. But if you want to reach all those people, it’s going to cost a lot.

It’s a simple case of supply and demand, and social media platforms are limiting the supply. Organic reach — that is, your ability to speak directly to the audience that chooses to follow and interact with your business — has dwindled to almost nothing. On Facebook, for example, organic reach touches less than 5 percent of your audience on average. Facebook simply doesn’t show your posts to most of your followers … unless you pay for the privilege. That’s one of the reasons why advertising inside social media has become increasingly expensive, as brands outbid each other in a competition for users’ attention.

That’s not to say you should stop using digital platforms altogether. Paid social is a hotbed of marketing insight. With just a small amount of cash, you can easily test headlines, imagery, and offers on different audiences. That’s valuable research. However, if your entire acquisition strategy depends on paid media, you could pay your way right out of business.

But there is another way! You just need to diversify. In the digital world, there are many ways to acquire customers: paid social, paid search, email acquisition, organic social, organic search (earning traffic through content), public relations, influencer marketing, and earned media. Start by identifying a few channels where you want to focus most of your efforts. (Ideally, at least some of those channels will not require the spend of ad dollars.) This way, you can test what’s working while building an omnichannel approach that will pay off down the road.

At my marketing agency, we start with data and consumer insights, then use that to support tactics that allow clients to win at SEO through organic content. (Social media may be the ultimate toy for idle hands, but Google is still a business’s best friend.) Then we tie that to a strategy that makes it easy to acquire email addresses. Then we focus on paid social to amplify direct selling.

For example, we have one CPG client for whom we created 40 original articles, designed to drive traffic to its website. On the surface, this might not seem like a way to grow revenue. But within two years, those 40 articles allowed the brand to rank for more than 12,000 keywords (up from 2,000), landing in the top three Google results for nearly 400 different topics and searches.

This influx of traffic made it easier than ever to directly sell on the article pages and add thousands of email addresses to the company’s database, which they used for email marketing. This was a combination of smart SEO planning (knowing what keywords to target), strategy lead generation (creating pop-ups or other opt-ins to the site visitor), and positioning product offerings on specific article pages (like native ads that sold products related to the topic of a specific article). This way, the traffic was technically “free” — and so were the added emails, which we could now upload to social media platforms and directly sell to consumers with ads based on their known interests.

If you put all your eggs in the paid basket, you underestimate and undercut the long-term growth of your brand. And when you push on all levers at the same time, you make it increasingly hard to know which acquisition channels have the highest ROI. But when you diversify and segment your strategy, the opportunity for growth can feel limitless.
